Originally released in 2009 after a six-year hiatus, Touch Yello sees the seminal Swiss electronic duo refining their signature blend of cinematic synth-pop and lounge-infused elegance. By this stage in their career, their position at the top of Switzerland's charts was virtually assured, and this album revisits their addictive blend of mood and atmosphere. Opening track 'The Expert' delivers a quintessential Yello experience, driven by deep bass, brooding pads and Dieter Meier's unmistakable low-register vocals. 'You Better Hide', featuring Heidi Happy, is a fresh dimension, marking one of their most extensive collaborations with a guest vocalist and leaning fully into sophisticated lounge territory. Despite the album's smooth, jazz-tinged direction, classic Yello elements still shine through. 'Out of Dawn' fuses their signature style with an irresistibly catchy chorus, while 'Bostich' (Reflected) reimagines one of their earliest tracks, proving their ability to revisit the past without losing relevance. Jazz musician Till Bronner lends his flugelhorn to 'Tangier Blue' and 'Vertical Vision', further emphasising the album's lounge aesthetic. Meanwhile, Heidi Happy's vocals add warmth to tracks like 'Kiss in Blue' and 'Stay', infusing them with charm and emotional depth. Closing track 'Takla Maklan', featuring Dorothee Oberlinger, evokes desert landscapes with its ethereal textures, bringing Touch Yello to a fittingly atmospheric conclusion. Elegant, and meticulously crafted, this album showcases Yello at their most refined, proving their sound is as compelling as ever.
