Blending sounds of new wave, indie & techno, Das Beat's sound is distinguished by the vocals of Eddie Rabenberger. Singing in both German and English, she brings a performative element to the project: trying on different characters via screaming, shouting, soft singing and spoken word.
The music is produced by Canadian-born Alexander Cowan, aka DJ Kerby, who is one half of Blue Hawaii as well as the mixer for Brutalismus 3000, amongst others in Berlin's scene. Their songs are defined by dreamy atmospherics, driving synths & beats, guitars as well as a bassy pulse or “das beat”.
Frau Fatal is their dazzling debut, steeped in mystery and mischief. The album merges contemporary pop with nods to new wave, EBM, indie rock, and italo disco. Burning and brazenly dramatic, it dances on the edge of the timeline, laying its emotions bare while addressing themes of romance, depression, casual dating, and fast-paced city life. Powered by Eddie’s theatrical flair and Cowan’s sharp production, Frau Fatal is as heartfelt as it is electrifying.
