Emmy Award-winning composers Brad Hatfield and Gaye Tolan Hatfield have released “Straight Up: Jazz and Cocktails, Vol. 11” and “Straight Up: Jazz and Cocktails, Vol. 12”, the latest chapters in the “Straight Up” series. Recorded in both Boston and Vero Beach, Florida, these volumes showcase a diverse palette of moods, ranging from sophisticated cocktail jazz to atmospheric contemporary jazz in the style of the ECM record label.
Vol. 11 highlights lead performances on saxophone, trumpet, and guitar, with Gaye featured prominently as both performer (alto sax) and composer. Vol. 12 shifts the spotlight to piano and vibraphone-led arrangements.
