pkIII is a modern music trio featuring the band leader paul kueppers (pk) on electric piano, ursula wienken on bass, and joshua knauber on drums. formed in 2021, the band began exploring different playing modes and arrived at an interactive and transformative style of genre-blending and bending.
through friendship and trust, the band operates freely within the framework of their own compositions and arrangements, exploring and finding common ground in the variety of musical landscapes, in which their own personality shines, yet the pitfalls of egotistical individualism are avoided.
pkIII’s music tries to depict various states of being. emotions can vary, unexpected events within performance are embraced, unity is of the utmost importance to the group.
pkIII makes music for the young audience, wanting to witness one possibility of a contemporary way of mixing the old with the new, the sad with the happy, the serious with the goofy.
this dialectical approach is essential to their art, a type of modernity that dwells in constant metamorphosis.

‘we’re big fans’ is pkIII’s first record, to be released on pascal klewer’s sts sts record. the album showcases a type of music that is relatable but never heard of, rooted in tradition yet avoiding the clinging to old principles.
its purpose is not to be a document of the innovation of music or ‘jazz’. its purpose is to be enjoyed with a childlike curiosity, to enter a realm of its own that is as strange and diffuse, but also clear and beautiful as life itself. recorded in the home of joshua knauber’s parents, this self-produced record tries to join the artistic values of modern independent music.
