Jonathan Matis - Resonance: Time + Wood + Steel (2025)

Jonathan Matis likes music is an improvising guitarist and the pianist and member of the band Boat Burning, and previously led the Low End String Quartet and the DC Improvisers Collective.

This album's title is in the form of an Excel formula. Jonathan moonlight’s as a bookkeeping for a nonprofit organizations. He makes a lot of spreadsheets. Several of the pieces on this album have "scores" that are actually spreadsheets with information that guides an improvisation.

Most of the pieces on this album were played on a 1961 Harmony archtop guitar that was rebuilt by Pete Malinoski. Something about this instrument unlocked the series of pieces that became the album.They are a series of improvisations for guitar, with the addition of two delay pedals and a variety of tools to supplement the pick and fingers as a means of attack. Two short, notated piano pieces also appeared.
