Jazz history is full of successful musical associations, like Louis Armstrong-Earl Hines, Teddy Wilson-Lester Young-Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker-Thelonious Monk-Dizzy Gillespie, John Lewis-Milt Jackson, John Coltrane-McCoy Tyner, or the Adderley and Heath brothers.

Pianist Oscar Peterson (1925-2007) had, in his long and illustrious career, two associates who helped him shape his highly personal, seminal trio style: bassists Ray Brown and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. Their contributions were altogether different, Brown focusing on the highly rhythmical “walking bass” concept, and NHØP adding a more harmonically advanced background with his horn-like solo playing.

In 2010 I had the idea of putting together, for a Festival in Colmar, Alsace, three European musicians with strong roots in this concept: Catalan pianist Ignasi Terraza, French bassist Pierre Boussaguet and Swedish guitarist Ulf Wakenius. The three of them have, through the years, developed very personal styles, but keep showing in their playing the influence of the Masters and their music. This trio has intermittently worked since then, but it was only in 2024, on the occasion of a concert held in Barcelona, when they had the opportunity of getting into a studio to record some of this wonderful music, including Oscar Peterson evergreens like Cakewalk and You Look Good to Me as well as some originals, like Mother Land (Boussaguet), Give Me Another (Terraza) or Lines for Oscar (Wakenius). The results are in your hands. (Jordi Suñol)
