Minyo Crusaders - 日本民謡珍道中 (2023) [Hi-Res]

Minyo Crusaders bring a vibrant fusion of traditional Japanese folk songs (min'yō) and Latin rhythms in their latest musical endeavor. Band leader Katsumi Tanaka was inspired by a renewed search for cultural roots after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, discovering past artists who blended min'yō with jazz and Latin styles. Lead singer Freddie Tsukamoto, initially a jazz vocalist, connected deeply with min'yō upon hearing a hometown tune, leading to a personal and musical transformation.

Formed in 2011 in Fussa, Tokyo, the band includes musicians influenced by Afro and Latin genres. They began with jam sessions in the former US military base's Banana House and released their acclaimed debut Echoes of Japan in 2017, gaining international recognition. In their second album, the Minyo Crusaders continue to reimagine historical folk songs with Latin flair, revitalizing age-old melodies and affirming their place as pioneers in Japan’s world music scene.
