Silver Synthetic - Rosalie (2025)

New Orleans band Silver Synthetic often sound like the Grateful Dead at their breeziest on sophomore record Rosalie, a quality especially apparent on tracks like the cheerful “Yr Gonna Be Happy” (which features some slick pedal steel from ambient country superstar Luke Schneider, another point in the Dead column). But while most of the time they’re traveling the Cosmic American byways, the band shakes up the foundational sound with the addition of a little 90s slacker rock here and there, and a grungey Velvets feel throughout. Nevertheless, this is heart-on-sleeve stuff rooted in the Topanga Canyon tradition (Neil Young, Canned Heat, etc.), which has always been a bit more country than neighboring Laurel, so embrace the twang and take it easy.
