Born in 1954, Klaus Ignatzek is firmly established as one of the top pianists on the European jazz scene. Besides solo projects, he has been heading up international line-ups for years constantly forming and re-forming. These groups, with numerous European tours and studio sessions under their belts, have included musicians such as Joe Henderson, Dave Liebman, Bobby Watson, Billy Heart…
Klaus has also gained a considerable reputation for his exciting compositions, emulating the innovative style of the bebop and hardbop era. Over 100 recorded compositions bear testimony to his talent.
The Klaus Ignatzek Quintet has been performing regularly in its current formation with Claus Roditi and Gustavo Bergalli as soloists since 1989. Klaus Ignatzek as leader and composer of almost the entire repertoire of the band has developed his own special brand of hardbop-style music incorporating the dynamism of these two Latin American soloists.
The Brazilian Claudio Roditi, a resident of New York City since 1976, is known for his brilliant tone, immense virtuosity and powerful playing. These qualities have put him in high demand on the international scene. Alongside his own band, he has been a member of Paquito d’Rivera’s band since 1983 and since 1988 has appeared in Dizzy Gillespie’s United Nation Band.
Gustavo Bergalli from Argentina is one of the major trumpet players of South America. Music critics and the public alike have warmed to his impressive sureness of phrase and sheer playing ability. Among others, he has appeared with Gato Barbieri, Phil Woods, Lee Konitz, Michel Legrand and John Scofield, as well as heading up his own formation since 1985.
Lean-Louis Rassinfosse, born 1952, must be the most sought-after bass player on the Belgian scene. His reputation as a musician of international standing was chiefly forged through his work with Chet Baker, lasting over 10 years. He has toured with, among others, George Coleman, Joe Henderson, Michel Petrucciani, Tete Montoliu, Claudio Roditi, and Toots Thielemans. Jean-Louis has an excellent ear for melody and is a master at inventing interesting walking bass-lines, in short, a virtuoso whose international reputation is getting bigger by the minute.
The Swiss drummer Joris Dudli has been performing with Klaus Ignatzek since 1984. Based in New York since 1986, he has been one of the select few European jazz musicians able to establish themselves in the American jazz capital. After participating in the Vienna Art Ochestra he performed with, among others, Johnny Griffin, Woody Shaw and Art Farmer.
