Around the age of 15, I got my first guitar, a copy of a Fender Stratocaster and a small 10-watt amp. I was quickly drawn to the fuzzy sounds of the time. On every radio station, all you heard was ZZ Top's "La Grange."

Then came the heroes of the moment, who still remain so, by the way: JJ Cale, Clapton, SRV, Knopfler, Ray Cooder, and Moore. Then I went back in time to understand how and by whom they had been influenced.

And there, I discovered Elmore James, Blind Willie, Buddy Guy, and dozens of other very talented American bluesmen, all playing with feeling.
