Doldinger's Motherhood & Klaus Doldinger - Motherhood (1970)

"Doldinger's Motherhood" (often referred to simply as "Motherhood") is a key album by the legendary German jazz saxophonist and composer Klaus Doldinger, released in 1970 on the Liberty label.

This project became an important link and bridge in Doldinger's career, transitioning from his early, pure jazz bands (the Klaus Doldinger Quartet) to the formation of the iconic fusion group Passport in 1971.

The album is filled with a vibrant, hypnotic blend of a powerful horn section, heavy psychedelic guitar riffs, Hammond organ, and dense funk rhythms. The music exudes the expressiveness of 1970s German krautrock, blended with virtuoso jazz improvisation and rhythm and blues drive.

In addition to Doldinger himself (saxophones, electric piano, vocals), the recording features renowned German rock musician and drummer Udo Lindenberg and guitarist Keith Forsey—the musicians who formed the golden core of Passport's early lineup.

In spirit and arrangement, the album ranks among the works of Soft Machine, early Chicago, Blood, Sweat & Tears, and German experimentalists like Embryo and Amon Düül II.
