Ammar 808 - Club Tounsi (2025) [Hi-Res]

Club Tounsi is the latest album by AMMAR 808, the project of Denmark-based Tunisian producer Sofyann Ben Youssef, known for blending traditional sounds with futuristic electronic production. After exploring North African music on Maghreb United (2018) and South Indian traditions on Global Control / Invisible Invasion (2020), AMMAR 808 now turns to the Mezoued folk genre from his native Tunisia.

Rooted in the working-class and immigrant communities of 1950s Tunis, Mezoued combines Sufi chants, malouf melodies, Arabic scales, and popular folk with energetic hand drums and goatskin bagpipes. Once marginalized, it's now reimagined through AMMAR 808’s lens with heavy basslines, synths, and TR-808 beats.

Club Tounsi features top Tunisian vocalists and instrumentalists, creating a fusion of repetitive electronic rhythms and live percussion. Songs like “Aman Aman” transform traditional laments into haunting, cinematic club tracks. The album aims to bridge generations, reviving well-known Mezoued classics for modern listeners and the global dancefloor—honoring heritage while propelling it into the future.
