Coco Chatru Quartet - Limbokolia (2025) [Hi-Res]

Coco Chatru Quartet gets its name from the legendary Swedish adventurer, inventor and actress Coco Chatru. The record Limbokolia was inspired by a tale told to the band by an alleged former companion (now very old) of Coco Chatru. In her youth, she was part of Coco Chatru’s entourage in Madrid. By coincidence, they became acquainted with the curious Madrid icon El Hombre de Cinc (The Man of Zinc), who spoke of a mysterious far-away place (or zone) called Limbokolia. In the lair of The Man of Zink, they found a map leading to Limbokolia and embarked on a remarkable journey.
The songs of the album Limbokolia are named after different parts of the journey. First (SIDE A), »Tuggummi, sol och betong« (»Chewing gum, Sunlight and Concrete«) is an image of their carefree existence in Madrid. »Zinkmannens skafferi« (»The Attic of The Man of Zinc«) is the place where they found (and stole) the map. »SPIF« (Safe Passage Internazionale de Falconetti) is the name of the steamship they travelled with – and »Ormen med giget« (»The Snake with the gig«) is named after that steamship’s captain, a villain who sunk the vessel during a storm. »Klätterträd« (»A Tree for Climbing«) was one of the enigmatic objects marked on the stolen map: a tree in the form of a Labyrinth.

Then (SIDE B), »Cikadan och turturduvan« (»The Cicada and the Turtle Dove«), the Gatekeepers travelers to Limbokolia must pass in order to reach the forbidden amusement park. There, a »Waterslide« leads to a secret basement where a chaotic movie is being recorded, hence »Trubbel i källaren« (»Big Trouble in the Basement«). Finally, »Cocos Bolero« depicts the vast prairie that can only be crossed with a Bolero in 4/4. Then, beyond the horizon, behind the rainbow, lies Limbokolia – the place where everyone we long for awaits us. The theme song for that magical place, the only track not composed by the band members, is a tune called »Melancholia«, written by one of the citizens of Limbokolia.

The record Limbokolia is released both on vinyl and on streaming platforms. The vinyl sleeve also includes Limbokolia – The Boardgame, an accompanying game that takes the players on an adventurous journey to reach Limbokolia. It can only be played while listening to the entire album.
