“Motel d’amour” is an unreleased 1985 concept album by the German band Collage, fronted by vocalist Katrin A. Kunze and produced by Markus Kammann and Jürgen Grah. Originally shelved due to label conflicts, this vibrant electro-funk treasure from the tail-end of the Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW) era has finally resurfaced.

Built on funky basslines, vintage synths, Roland TR-808 beats, and Kunze’s daring, expressive vocals, the album tells vivid, nightlife-inspired stories of flirtation, love, and desire. Influences range from Earth, Wind & Fire and The Isley Brothers to Afrika Bambaataa, blending German electro-pop aesthetics with deep funk grooves.

Although recorded at the renowned Delta Studio, the original masters were lost — the current release was remastered from a TDK cassette. Despite light distortions, the remaster retains powerful charm and authenticity.

Now rediscovered, Motel d’amour joins the ranks of cult NDW gems and stands as a bold, overdue addition to German electronic music history.
