Over the past several years my husband , French guitarist Serge Merlaud and I have been regularly performing in Europe and deepening a collaboration with the great French musical team Charlier/Sourisse. For over 30 years master drummer Andre Charlier and Keyboard virtuoso Benoit Sourisse have recorded and toured in various small groups as well as with their Multiquarium Bigband. They’ve collaborated with countless Jazz masters including Kenny Garrett, Randy Brecker, and Bireli Lagrene. We were honored to join this company.

Serge’s and my pairing with Charlier/Sourisse at a moment when we were exploring more deeply the music of Brazil turned out to be a profound blessing. Recording Brazilian standards by Jobim, Djavan and Guinga, with musicians so deeply rooted in these grooves felt like kismet. The feel of Serge’s arrangements of Flor de Lis (with Benoit whistling!) and a Brazilian 4/4 Bluesette never felt so good to me. Even the Bossa of Que Rest-t-il de Nos Amours had a deeper vibe than I’d experienced before. Plus, everyone else in the studio could coach my first attempt to record in French.
