Derrick Lara - Right On Time (2025)

Born in 1961 in Jamaica, Derrick Lara began his music career by emulating 1970s American R&B singers before discovering his own unique voice. Initially performing as a vocalist and drummer in various groups, his falsetto gained attention, leading to recordings with several producers and bands. After joining The Tamlins, Lara not only performed with them but also released successful solo singles, establishing himself as a standout artist. He was known for heartfelt songwriting, including tributes to his late mother.

His debut solo album, Right On Time (1982, Masai/Shaklow), is a high-quality lovers rock/roots reggae record, featuring top session musicians, soulful vocals, and the rich studio sound of early 1980s Jamaica.
