Gaelic folk-jazz homage to Glasgow

Born on South Uist and now rooted in Glasgow, Màiri MacMillan pays intimate tribute to her adopted city with a set of original Gaelic songs, blending folk, jazz, and contemporary classical textures.
Accompanied by Rory Matheson (piano), Matt Carmichael (saxophone), and Germa Adan (guitar, strings), she paints sonic portraits of places and moods — from the tender Uiseag to the moody Drochaid, inspired by the city’s Ha’penny Bridge.

Orchestral openings give way to looser, freer forms, with standout moments like the jazzy Gaol Am Pàirc Na Banrigh and the reflective Great City Of The Gaels.
A beautifully crafted, thoughtful album that resonates beyond language.
