Orval Prophet was a revered figure in Canada’s Ottawa Valley country music scene, admired for his heartfelt vocals and strong regional identity. Though his early 1950s recordings were made in Nashville and he secured a contract with Decca thanks to Wilf Carter, Orval never fully pursued mainstream success in the U.S., staying rooted in his community.

Born in 1922 in Edwards, Ontario, Prophet grew up on a farm and taught himself music. His break came via CFRA's Fiddlers Fling show, followed by recording sessions in Nashville in 1952 under producer Paul Cohen. His debut track, The Judgement Day Express, became a Canadian hit and drew modest attention in the U.S. Despite offers from major country platforms like the Louisiana Hayride, Prophet chose love and home over career ambition.

His style echoed Hank Snow, and while his health issues and quiet nature kept him from wide fame, he is remembered as a pioneer of Canadian country — deeply authentic, committed to his roots, and musically gifted.
