Floy Doy is a Raleigh-based trio—Bryan McCune (cornet & electronics), Rick Lassiter (bass) and Bakru Hunsel (drums & percussion)—that blends original compositions with adventurous covers, weaving free-form improvisation, electronic textures and jazz tradition into a playful, unpredictable whole. Each member brings deep regional experience: McCune’s genre-spanning cornet work, Lassiter’s long-standing role in North Carolina’s songwriter scene, and Hunsel’s Surinamese-Dutch rhythmic sensibility. Their forthcoming album After Time (due late summer 2025) promises to showcase the group’s shape-shifting sound—from squiggly synth lines and brass howls to straight-ahead cornet melodies—affirming the Independent Weekly’s claim that with Floy Doy “anything is possible.”
