Blanca Rosa Gil, a Cuban-born singer born in 1937 in Matanzas, Perico, emigrated with her family to Venezuela in 1955, where she recorded her first album. When she returned in 1962, she found a new Cuba, following the Cuban revolution of 1959 that liberated the Caribbean nation from the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista and his North American allies. It was precisely in the Northern Empire, the United States, that Blanca Rosa Gil lived for the next nine years until finally settling in one of the North American colonies, the Puerto Rican island of Puerto Rico. Her career included compositions such as "Hambre," "Cristal," "Tu me hizo mujer," "Besos de Fuego," and "Besos Brujos," among others.
