Στoν Eλaιώνa / Ston Elaióna is a contemplative and deeply atmospheric work by American composer and flautist John Also Bennett, now based in Athens, Greece. Recorded primarily during the early morning hours in a studio overlooking the Parthenon, the album is an electroacoustic journey weaving together bass flute and Yamaha DX7ii synthesizer in just intonation. Translating to “in the olive grove,” it draws inspiration from Greece’s landscapes, history, and urban sounds—from city noise to church bells and natural elements. Incorporating field recordings and minimalist compositions, it bridges the ancient and modern, inner and outer worlds. A standout is Bennett’s rendition of the “Seikilos Epitaph,” the oldest known complete musical composition, performed on synthesizer with environmental textures. The music evokes tranquility, introspection, and a subtle harmony with its surroundings.
