American rhythm and blues vocal group, formed in 1955 in Detroit, Michigan.
The first lineup released only their first single This Day / Baby That's It: Eddie Floyd, Robert Manardo, Arnett Robinson, Willie Schofield, Tom Shelter.
By the time of the Sent Up / Can This Be Christmas single, the lineup was Eddie Floyd, Sir Mack Rice, Willie Schofield, Joe Stubbs and Lance Finney. This lineup stayed together through
I + Love + You / Wonderful Love, after which Wilson Pickett replaced Joe Stubbs
Before the release of Fine, Fine Girl / Oh Baby in 1963 they disbanded when Willie Schofield got drafted and Eddie Floyd and Wilson Pickett weren't always available.
Robert West manager of The Falcons refused to let his group die.
He took a group known as The Fabulous Playboys (who recorded on Daco, Apollo Records and Contour and were The Ramblers on Federal Records and made them The Falcons.
Towards the end of the 60s into the 70s original members began to come back under the Falcons name.
The second incarnation of The Falcons continued performing as The Firestones.
