Harold Budd - The Pavilion Of Dreams (1978)

“The Pavilion of Dreams” is a contemplative, ambient-chamber work by Harold Budd, recorded in 1976 and released in 1978 on Brian Eno’s Obscure label. Described on the original cover as “an extended cycle of works begun in 1972,” the album integrates saxophone, voice, piano, marimba, and glockenspiel into a dreamlike tableau. Budd himself characterized it as “existentially pretty, mindless, shallow, and utterly devastating.” The project marked a pivotal artistic rebirth, a statement of identity and intent in his career.
