German rock icon Phillip Boa and his band Phillip Boa and the Voodooclub, in collaboration with Universal Music, are pleased to announce the re-release of the groundbreaking album Boaphenia on the occasion of the 30th anniversary.

Released in 1993, due to their music-critical as well as commercial success, the album represented a true turning point in the band's career and is now considered a cult classic. It was represented in the German album charts for 18 weeks and was also released internationally (including Australia, Japan, Benelux, Scandinavia, etc.).

Boaphenia continues to be regarded as one of the most significant albums of the local independent and alternative scene, which impressively demonstrates Phillip Boa's unique approach to songwriting and his ability to mix different genres and styles. With its innovative approach to rock music and poetic lyrics, the band established themselves as one of the most important acts in the alternative rock scene. At the same time, their influence extends beyond German borders today.

The extensive 30 year anniversary edition appears as an elegant white 2LP double vinyl as well as 2CD mint pack and also as an unprecedented Deluxe EarBook Edition, consisting of a total of four CDs, a hardcover photo book over 52 pages and a 10 single on vinyl. In addition, there are 12 brand new unreleased songs on the release. 2 songs contain rediscovered original vocal tracks by the then singer Pia Lund, around which new songs were tailored.

Phillip Boa and the Voodoo Club have always evolved and renewed in the years since Boaphenia, but this re-release, if you can call it so given the many new content and songs, also serves as a reminder of the band's lasting legacy and their place in the pantheon of German rock music.

Recorded in London, New York and Malta in the early 1990s and produced by Tony Visconti, Craig Leon, Eroc and Boa, the project marked a certain departure from the band's earlier sound, with a stronger emphasis on rock and pop elements and a slightly finer polished production style. Boa himself said that Boaphenia was inspired by his experiences in the late 1980s and early 90s, especially by the cultural and social changes in the period of time. As musical influences, he calls international legends and songwriters such as David Bowie, Brian Wilson, Lou Reed, Can and nowadays Lana del Rey or Big Thief.
