Ŋurru Wäŋa is the second album by the Australian cross-cultural ensemble Hand to Earth. The title translates from the Yolŋu language as 'homeland' or 'country'. The album is a unique collaboration between bearers of ancient traditions and contemporary improvising musicians. At its core are the 'manikay' — traditional Yolŋu song cycles — performed by Daniel and David Wilfred on vocals and yidaki. These ancient songs are interwoven with the minimalist vocals of Korean singer Sunny Kim and the electro-acoustic textures created by Peter Knight on trumpet and electronics and Aviva Endean on clarinets. The music on the album is a slowly evolving, meditative soundscape that places ancient ritual chants within the context of contemporary improvisational and ambient music. This creates a space for deep listening and reflection on the human connection to land.Title: Ŋurru Wäŋa
