Haruomi Hosono - Tropical Dandy (2025)

"Tropical Dandy" is the second solo album by Japanese musician and producer Haruomi Hosono, originally released in 1975. This album marks the beginning of the artist's so-called "tropical trilogy," in which he moves away from the American folk-rock of his debut towards a more eclectic and multi-layered sound. On "Tropical Dandy," Hosono explores the concept of "exotica" from a Japanese perspective, blending influences from early 20th-century American pop (Tin Pan Alley), jazz, and R&B with traditional musical elements from Japan, Okinawa, and Hawaii. The album was recorded with his backing band Tin Pan Alley and features rich arrangements with strings and horns, creating a relaxed, cinematic, and slightly nostalgic atmosphere.
