"Singing Bass" is a solo album by the British-Indian composer and virtuoso bass player, Shri (Shrikanth Sriram). The album's central concept is to present the fretless bass guitar not as an accompanying instrument, but as a lead, "singing" voice. Shri employs a unique playing technique, mimicking the phrasing and melismas (ornamentations) characteristic of Indian classical vocals on his bass. Musically, the album is a fusion that combines the rhythmic foundation of British drum & bass and jungle with the melodicism and harmonies of Indian classical music. The recording also features elements of funk, jazz, and ambient music, creating a multi-layered and dynamic sonic tapestry.
