Following up their excellent 2023 album, Jasmine On A Night In July, and an engrossing live outing from last year, Scree returns to their lounged and limber vision of jazz. A first taste of the new album, “August,” embraces the seasonal swelter of the track’s title. The song melts through the speaker grates, highlighting the languid whirlpools of guitar from songwriter Ryan El-Solh. Paired with Quill and Burger’s rhythm section, “August” sets up another satisfying set from the Brooklyn band. The song closes out the new record with a smudged and swirling feeling, dream-laden and drowsy, with just a touch of hallucination creeping in at the edges. Their new album, also titled August, is out August 22nd from Ruination Record Co.
