Stan Getz - Early Autumn (2026)

Stan Getz, the legendary tenor saxophonist known as “The Sound,” became one of jazz’s most influential melodic improvisers. Born in Philadelphia in 1927, he began his professional career as a teenager and later rose to fame as a member of Woody Herman’s Second Herd before leading a variety of musical groups of his own. Over the course of a long career, he evolved from a musician inspired by Lester Young into an innovator with a distinctive, emotionally rich sound of his own.

His creative range extended from lush romantic ballads to complex progressive jazz and fusion. Stan Getz became famous for introducing American audiences to bossa nova through his collaborations on the albums Jazz Samba and the Grammy Award-winning Getz/Gilberto, which featured the worldwide hit “The Girl from Ipanema.” He continued to push musical boundaries until his death from liver cancer in 1991, leaving behind a rich legacy of more than 150 albums, including his acclaimed final duo album with pianist Kenny Barron.
