Lathe of Heaven's Aurora marks a striking evolution, blending their punk foundations with the shadowy elegance of new wave and ‘80s post-punk. Drawing influence from mid-’80s British and Finnish acts, the album channels the melodic sweep of The Cure, the gothic intensity of Musta Paraati, and the shimmering art-pop edge of A Flock of Seagulls.

Recorded with Ben Greenberg at Circular Ruin and mastered by Brad Boatright, Aurora expands the band’s sonic palette while retaining their raw urgency. Lyrically, the record plays out like a series of speculative fiction vignettes, tackling themes of anti-colonialism, diversity, and equality with poetic conviction. It’s a bold step forward—sonically adventurous, politically charged, and vividly imagined.
