Trøen/Arnesen Quartet - New Paintings of Jazz (2025) [Hi-Res]

New Paintings of Jazz is saxophonist and composer Elisabeth Lid Trøen's first commissioned work! Through newly written original compositions, she explores her musical influences and interests, together with her own quartet – the Trøen/Arnesen Quartet.
In recent years, saxophonist Elisabeth Lid Trøen has been active in a wide range of projects and bands, including Bergen Big Band, Klangen av Hoem, and Bouncealarm. She has written music for large and small ensembles and worked with a number of big names, such as Marius Neset, Erlend Skomsvoll, Chris Potter, Jon Balke, and Django Bates.
The quartet spans three generations and consists of pianist Dag Arnesen – a doyen of Norwegian jazz who has collaborated closely with Elisabeth in recent years – the renowned bassist Ole Marius Sandberg and Sigurd Steinkopf, one of the country's most exciting young drummers.
The result is a playful and melodic expression that ranges from Keith Jarrett to Edvard Grieg, from Norwegian contemporary jazz to John Coltrane and Joe Henderson. These four musicians bring with them experiences from different genres and expressions that merge and become both traditional and innovative at the same time.
