Riot Jazz Brass Band - Ginja (2025) [Hi-Res]

Since setting sail in late-noughties Manchester, Riot Jazz Brass Band has been the bare-breasted, fist-pumping galleon figure of the Riot Jazz armada. Stirring up a hot-pot of peace-lovin' aggro-jazz and re-interpreted dancefloor bangers, these brass-wielding super-heroes of fine-tuning the good times have filled ear-holes, dance floors and festival fields across countries and continents!

A proper Riot Jazz workout: playful, driving, and made for the dancefloor. Ginja is both a Portuguese cherry spirit and a nod to the “Ginger Ninjas” in the band. It’s a 120bpm groove that’s impossible to sit still to—when I first came up with the bass line, I was singing it around the house and couldn’t stop moving, so I knew I had to get it down to play with my Riot Jazz brothers. The tune locks into a relentless groove before breaking into a half-time swing, where our ginger bandleader, Nick Walters, cuts loose with some sultry improvisation.
