Gennady Rozhdestvensky - Tishchenko: Symphony No. 5 (1996)

Tishchenko's Fifth Symphony is dedicated to Shostakovich and directly continues the imagery of his music - imperative oratorical proclamations, feverish build-ups, tragic climaxes and, along with this, long monologue reflections. It is permeated with Shostakovich's monogram motif (D-(e)S-C-H), includes quotations from his works (from the Eighth and Tenth Symphonies, the Viola Sonata, etc.), as well as from the works of Tishchenko himself (from the Third Symphony, the Fifth Piano Sonata, the Piano Concerto). This is a kind of dialogue between composers of different generations.
