Helen Schneider - Like a Woman (2007)

Finally! The pop and rock scene has Helen Schneider back. After extended trips into the somewhat more serious musical world, the New York singer is now, as she says, "reached the beginning of the circle again." She recorded an album of classic pop and rock songs, starting with it where she had broken off her career as a pop singer 20 years ago, although she was able to record top ten successes with hits like "Rock'n' Roll Gypsy".

"Many people ask me, "How can you first record Charles Ives songs and Brecht/Weill material and then pop songs?" For me, the journey is clear. I had to travel through very complicated mazes for a long time to arrive at the present emotional simplicity. Just by working with Charles Ives material, I realized that simplicity can be awesome. I learned to appreciate them again. It is important to me that I tell a story completely new with these songs. That I fill them with my life and my emotions and thereby perhaps give other people access to their own feelings". She has succeeded.

The result: the album "Like A Woman", with some of the most beautiful compositions from the pen of the most renowned international songwriters, interpreted as multifaceted, sensitive, intimate and at the same time intelligently as only a singer with such rich professional experience can succeed as Helen Schneider has behind her. There are classics such as "Born In Time" and "Just Like A Woman" (Bob Dylan), "Natural Woman" (Carole King), "If Loving You Is Wrong" (Homer Banks, Carl Mittchell Hampton, Raymond Earl Jackson) as well as other titles from Tom Waits, Emmylou Harris and Leonard Cohen.

"I have lived many musical lives," she says. And that highlights them with this album.
