Glenn Jones, The Black Twig Pickers, Charlie Parr - Even to Win is to Fail b/w EastMont Syrup (2011)

This split album is a collaboration of three iconic figures of the American folk scene. One side of the record, "Even to Win is to Fail," features five instrumental compositions by guitarist Glenn Jones, a master of "American Primitivism." His pieces are performed on 6- and 12-string acoustic guitars and continue his exploration of the tradition established by John Fahey.

The second side, "EastMont Syrup," was recorded by The Black Twig Pickers with country-bluesman Charlie Parr. This part of the album captures the atmosphere of a live jam session and includes both energetic instrumental tracks and songs rooted in the Appalachian musical tradition. The recordings reflect a spirit of spontaneous music-making and camaraderie among the musicians.
