This collection gathers an unsung chapter of Paquito Guzmán's lengthy career: ballads. While being one of Tommy Olivencia's lead vocalists (and during his solo career, as well), Guzmán has used the ballad genre as an alternative to gather other audiences. This happened way before ballads were converted into salsa during its romantic era. As a bonus, this collection features also a few boleros during his tenure with Olivencia (both artists recorded for Inca at the same time). "Peligro" and "Mintiendo Se Gana Más" were hits that helped Guzmán secure steady performances outside Puerto Rico. Other tunes like "Arranque de Ira" and "Como Se Trata a Una Mujer" showcase Guzmán's tasteful style. "Yo Quiero Darte un Nombre" and "Una Orquídea Para Tí" were the Olivencia band material. An interesting change of pace is delightfully explored on this compilation. Highly recommended.~José A. Estévez, Jr.
