Univers Zero is a Belgian band from the 1970s that created a unique hybrid of rock and classical music, which was significantly more extreme than that of their contemporaries, such as King Crimson. Unlike Crimson's symphonic rock, inspired by 19th-century romanticism, Univers Zero used predominantly acoustic and classical instruments (bassoon, strings) and drew inspiration from the dissonant and atonal works of 20th-century composers like Stravinsky and Bartók. An important element of their work was the dark atmosphere inspired by the writings of author H.P. Lovecraft. Despite accusations of being pretentious and overly gloomy, their music is characterized by complexity, unpredictability, and even a peculiar "gallows humor." The combination of rhythmic energy, dissonance, and fragmented time signatures makes their sound challenging to listen to, yet highly distinctive.Title: Univers zéro
