Electronic feedback, once an undesirable sonic artifact, has been transformed into an expressive tool for many musicians, from the rock bands of the 1960s to contemporary composers. The project "Proximity, Distance" by composer Patricia Alessandrini and violist Marco Fusi is a prime example of this creative approach. In their work, they explore and control feedback using special technologies, such as transducers placed on a viola d'amore and a portable device called the FeedBox for managing sound in a space. The music is created in real time, combining compositional structure with improvisation, where Fusi generates sounds with a violin while using the viola d'amore as a resonator. This project transforms the chaotic nature of noise into an elegant and refined soundscape.
