Rodolphe Burger, James Blood Ulmer - Guitar music (2003)

The album is the result of a collaboration between French musician Rodolphe Burger and American guitarist James Blood Ulmer. For Burger, this project was the realization of a long-held dream, inspired by a 1976 concert featuring Ulmer with Ornette Coleman. The album's ten tracks, recorded both live and in the studio (mostly in single takes), showcase equal contributions from both musicians. Burger creates a tense, deceptively calm atmosphere, while Ulmer's style is sharper, reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix. Instead of a guitar battle, the musicians display mutual understanding and complement each other. Stylistically, the album combines elements of free music, rock, blues, and funk, but its essence lies not in genres but in the unique creative fusion of the two artists, creating music that transcends national and stylistic boundaries.
