Tamami Koyake - Tamami First (1980)

Tamami Koyake and Isao Suzuki worked closely together on the album Tamami First, where Suzuki composed and arranged most of the pieces while also playing bass. Their partnership blends Koyake’s delicate, lyrical flute with Suzuki’s sophisticated harmonic and rhythmic sensibility, as he is a key figure in Japanese jazz. Suzuki also served as a musical mentor, helping Koyake shape her style between jazz fusion and orchestral refinement. This collaboration marked the beginning of Koyake’s recording career and stands as a rare example of synergy between virtuosity and sensitivity.
