In Shades of Gil Evans, Bohuslän Big Band takes on music by composer and arranger Gil Evans. The music is as beautiful as it is challenging to play, and shows why Evans is still a guiding star for today's most innovative jazz creators.

Composer and arranger Gil Evans is one of jazz's greatest innovators – an orchestral pioneer who took inspiration from classical composers like Ravel and Debussy and created a completely new sound. His influence can still be heard today in names like Maria Schneider, Vince Mendoza and Quincy Jones. Evans was a key figure in reshaping the soundscape of jazz, including through his legendary collaboration with trumpeter Miles Davis on albums like Birth of the Cool (1957), Miles Ahead (1957) and Sketches of Spain (1960). With his innovative arrangements, he shaped a completely new path for big band jazz.
