The Groove - Jansson/Kjellberg/Cedergren - The Groove Extension - Live & Well (2025) [Hi-Res]

On January 19, 2024, the group The Groove Extension performed a concert in Göteborg. Originally formed as a tribute to Jimmy Garrison, the group featured an expanded lineup including bassist Kjell Jansson, drummer Anders Kjellberg, Björn Cedergren (woodwinds), as well as a string section and vocalist Bror Gunnar Jansson. The music, performed in two sets, demonstrated a rich stylistic variety, starting with bop. Despite the presence of strings, the sound was not chamber-like. The performance was marked by Kjellberg's sophisticated rhythms and Cedergren's convincing playing. The repertoire featured a wide range and crossover aesthetics, including musical interpretations of poems by Swedish poets (Ferlin, Kent Andersson), as well as compositions in the spirit of Mingus ("Boogie Stop Shuffle") and a dedication to Coltrane.
