Kalaha - Guirca (2025) [Hi-Res]

Danish quartet Kalaha, formed in 2013, is renowned for its distinctive, genre-defying style that merges global musical influences such as samba, Anatolian rock, African highlife, desert blues, and modern electronic music. The band, marked by awards and critical acclaim, is set to release their seventh studio album, Guirca, on October 24th via April Records. This release follows their 2024 album Nord Havn. Inspired by a cumbia concert, a lively music and dance style from Colombia, Kalaha spent two intense weeks in the studio utilizing new percussion, electronic instruments, and a talkbox. As a result, Guirca fuses cumbia's infectious grooves with their characteristic, collage-esque creative identity. The title Guirca combines the names of the Latin-American percussion instruments güiro and cuíca, symbolizing the album's ethos of uniting traditions. On the album, the band blends cumbia and samba rhythms with Gaelic roots music, spaghetti-western motifs, and '70s jazz-rock fusion, all integrated with their signature electronics. Guirca continues Kalaha’s core mission of crossing cultural borders, bringing "bastardo inspirations from all parts of the world" into their danceable, mysterious, and boundary-blurring music.
