Major Stars - More Colors of Sound (2025) [Hi-Res]

The band Major Stars has released their new LP, More Colors of Sound, continuing their 27-year trajectory as veteran rockers known for their trippy, psyched-out sound fueled by overdriven guitars and powerful rhythm. The group, formed in the late 90s, has roots tracing back to the 80s, with founders Wayne Rogers and Kate Biggar playing in Crystallized Movements, and later in Vermonster and Magic Hour before forming Major Stars. The current lineup, which also featured on the 2019 album Roots of Confusion Seeds of Joy, includes Kate Biggar, Tom Leonard, Wayne Rogers, Dave Dougan, Casey Keenan, and Noell Dorsey. The title More Colors of Sound was conceived almost twenty years ago, and this album marks a change in the songwriting process: while Rogers previously wrote everything, Tom Leonard and Noell Dorsey also contributed significant material for this album due to the constraints of 2020 and 2021. Although there was initially enough material for a double album, it was pared down to 44 minutes, split evenly between songs penned by Rogers and those by Dorsey and Leonard, reflecting a democratic approach. The album's sound is, as ever, defined by the crush of three guitars, but it features a cleaner production compared to its predecessor.
