Belly's 1995 album King, the second and last before their hiatus, is considered an underrated 4AD effort that failed to achieve the success of their classic debut Star. Vocalist Tanya Donnelly already had a rich history, having co-founded Throwing Muses and The Breeders. After Star, despite its "dreamy, poppy" nature, did not sell, King was positioned as a more commercial, pop-rock attempt intended to counter grunge. However, the album was panned upon release and failed to find its audience, leading to the band's splintering. King has since been reappraised, featuring many strong, impeccably written Donnelly tracks like Seal My Fate, Red, and Silverfish, with some critics even suggesting it is a stronger record than Last Splash.Title: King (30th Anniversary Edition)
