The 1993 debut album 'Bloweyelashwish' by Midwestern duo loveliescrushing, comprised of multi-instrumentalist Scott Cortez and vocalist Melissa Arpin-Duimstra, was an euphoric and prophetic release that foreshadowed the later surge of shoegaze-inspired ambient music. The album connected influences from artists like My Bloody Valentine, Spacemen 3, Glenn Branca, Cocteau Twins, and Brian Eno, unhooking shoegaze's textures from its traditional song structures. Released a year before Flying Saucer Attack's "rural psychedelia," 'Bloweyelashwish' was a noisy collage of tape loops, distortions, and angelic chorals, reissued by Projekt Records in 1994. The latest reissue from Numero has been remastered and expanded with five bonus archival tracks. Despite loveliescrushing later perfecting their formula on 1996's 'Xuvetyn,' their debut has aged well, with its Portastudio grit seen as a concrete precursor to later experimental works like Fennesz's 2001 classic 'Endless Summer.'
