On this album, Melissa Manchester managed to assert herself as a writer by composing six out of ten tracks, which were superior in quality to the weaker ballad and disco material that made up the remainder. She delivered her more graceful version of the hit "Whenever I Call You Friend" (which was previously a hit for Stevie Nicks and Kenny Loggins), as well as the track "Lights of Dawn," where she accompanies herself on the piano, showcasing one of her most powerful and melodic compositions, free from the overwrought production that threatens to mar the rest of the album. However, the Arista label failed to support Manchester's original songs, choosing only to push material by outside writers, and none of her own inspired tracks were released as singles.

In 2007, the album was reissued with three bonus tracks.
