Delphine Deau, Julien Soro - The Other Side of Water (2025)

A new musical collaboration brings together Delphine Deau, the pianist and leader of the Nefertiti quartet, and Julien Soro, a saxophonist with the Orchestre National de Jazz (ONJ) and leader of the Players trio. This piano-saxophone duo serves as a platform for exploring improvisation and composition within an intimate yet intense format. The artists aim to rethink their usual approaches to playing, "crossing to the other side of themselves," in order to invent new forms of sonic exchange. Their creative process relies on the use of resonance, silence, and sound reflections to achieve a common rhythm. The music is described as impressionistic and poetic, consciously aligning itself with the lineage of celebrated piano-saxophone duos in modern jazz history, such as the partnerships of Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock, and Greg Osby and Marc Copland.
