The internationally acclaimed Norwegian vocalist Solveig Slettahjell returns with a breathtaking album of songs by other artists, such as Radiohead, ABBA, Gnarls Barkley, Tom Waits, the Rolling Stones, Leonard Cohen and Annie Lennox.
Accompanied by Morton Onevild on grand piano and keyboards, Solveig, who is best known for performing her own originals, has chosen a selection of songs that in theory should not really appear together, except perhaps on a rather mismatched mixtape. However, the arrangements and interpretations by Solveig and Morten Qvenild bring the diverse sources to an unexpected and extraordinarily satisfying unification, cunningly stripping back and rebuilding songs, slipping in changes of time signature, taking ideas from one original to apply to a different song, and breaking the rules of expectation with each note.
More than any other element it is Solveig's beautiful voice, so filled with emotion and intelligence, that gives each song a completely new set of feelings.
Personnel: Solveig Slettahjell (vocals), Morten Qvenild (autoharp, grand piano, omnichord, synthesizer, programming).
