The Planes - Motel for Lightning Bug EP (2025) Hi-Res

Brooklyn’s ever reliable The Planes land another fine release with the 6-song Motel For Lightning Bug. I guess we are now in double digits territory in their discography, and this band sits firmly and comfortably in their identity as a classic indie rock band. Lyrically though, the EP clearly reflects at what point in their lives these people are. The EP traces the tension between escape and endurance, ambition and contentment, risk and mortality — people chasing reinvention while the world keeps breaking down around them. There is an emotional edge not just in the lyrics but also in the delivery, and I am sure that songs like Radio Summer and The Box will appeal to fans of emo-rockish bands like New End Original, Jets To Brazil and Knapsack. This is a real record by real people that is out now on Totally Real Records. It all makes sense.
